The Medallion : trailer online
The Medallion (aka
Highbinders), has finally a release date (15 August 2003 in Asia and United States) and an official website where we can watch the first trailer. With a 35 M$(US) budget,
The Medallion is quite simply the most expensive movie ever produced in Hong-Kong according to several sources. The movie is also the first meeting, for many years, between Jackie Chan and Samo Hung (as action director) in this 100 % HK production directed by Gordon Chan (Fist of Legend). But Columbia has asked for several cuts in the first editing...

French Z2 Shaw Brothers DVD
For those who were complaining about the "fake" IVL 16/9 images and the 5.1 remixes which were not always very faithfull to the original track, I guess it's time to be jealous: Wild Side (a french editor) will release 46 Shaw Brothers movies on DVD in the next 5 years, including some in theatres. The good news (or bad for those who don't read french subs...) are that the images will be created from new anamorphic sources, and that the original mono sound track will be also included in the DVDs.
The first batch will be released in March 2004 with the 36th Chamber serie.
Many thanks to Wild Side for having answered our questions

Mei Ah remastered DVDs
After
Sex and Zen 2, Mei Ah will release soon more remastered DVD. First one will be
Moonlight Express, with a 16/9 image and the excellent soundtrack by Henry Lai on a separated CD. Price is supposed to be cheap, so it may be a good pick to honor Leslie's tragic death. Will follow this month 3 Chow Yun-Fat movies (probably in this list of four movies:
Treasure Hunt,
Peace Hotel,
A Toute Epreuve and
Full Contact). 16/9 of course, and 5.1 DTS track (but will there be the original track also ? That's a good question. It's present on the
Sex and Zen 2 ...). Are also announced: Jet Li's
Shaolin Temple and
Swordsman 2 (YESSS), as well as Ching Siu-Tung's
The East is Red. From what Mai Ah has shown with recent DVDs, we can be quite confident in the good quality of those reedition. Let's hope for both a 5.1 good remix and the original soundtrack.

Hong-Kong Awards 2002: all the results
No real surprise for those 2002 HKFA, with
Infernal Affairs and
Hero sharing 14 awards (half for each). The Andrew Lau/Alan Mak movie will still be remembered as the winner, as it won the best movie, director(s), screenplay and actor awards, while Hero was claiming all the technical ones. The main surprise is maybe the award won by Angelica Lee, and the most memorable moment to remember was probably the song sung by the four king of pops (Andy Lau, Jacky Cheung, Leon Lai and Aaron Kwok) for Leslie Cheung.
