Fresh Review: Returner


This japanese blockbuster never really hits the target, with a very average directing and a story copied from some more efficient blockbusters. The big budget makes it watchable, but it's still a waste of money. Read the review and DVD test if you want to know more.

Fresh News: Love for All Seasons


The yearly Chinese New Year Milkyway flick is here. It's quite well done, with some interesting ideas and a decent cast. The last third is sadly not up to the beginning, making it a watchable comedy, but nothing to remember.

DVD Re-edition: Peking Opera Blues


One of the most famous Tsui Hark classics is back on the air. After a good Megastar edition, this Deltamac edition doesn't disappoint, with a correct image (slightly better than the Megastar one), the original mono track and no special features. A must-buy if you didn't see it yet.

Edko DVD Hero


With a full-rate DTS ES 6.1 track and a nice DVD of special features, this Hong-Kongese edition of Hero is a very impressive value for its price. Even if the image or the interest of the special features is not as good as with an occidental special edition, the ratio value/price is probably the highest ever seen for a Hong-Kongese DVD.

Leslie Cheung (1956-2003)


Leslie Cheung was one of the brightest talents ever seen in Hong-Kong. With more than 60 movies, he has worked with the most talented directors, played well known characters and visited many genres. From the innocent cop in the John Woo Hero movies (A better tomorrow 1 and 2) to the swordsman of the beautiful Bride With White Hair, from the immigrant of Happy Together to his darker characters of these last two years (Inner Senses, Double Tap), Leslie leaves us with a wonderful legacy. Very few actors had his charism, charm and sensitivity. Brilliant actor, famous singer, Leslie Cheung was without any question of the most memorable personnalities in Hong-Kong. Farewell, Leslie.
