DVD Magnificent Trio
image
This is said to be a fake (zoomed-in) 16/9 frame, which implies the horizontal borders were removed. Quite frankly this didn't bother me so much, the colours are beautifully rendered, this is spotless as usual, though a bit hazy in the background at times.
sound
Probably better than other releases, as the added sound effects are somewhat less blatant than in other instances. Yet the chirping of the birds is still very fake. The music is a bit overmixed, too, especially the Tchaikovsy bit which sounds very clumsy.
subtitles
Some mispellings in the English subtitles, a bit quick at times as usual.
special features
Poor.
menus
Neat menu.
quality/price ration
This is a good way way to discover the film, but offers no great improvement from the VCD version. Diehard Chang Cheh fans faithful to the original Mono soundtrack should probably wait for the French release.
