DVD Magnificent Warriors
HK Legends

image

For such an "old" movie (1987 is quite old for a HKgese movie...), the result is quite impressive. This image is quite sharp, with few defaults. Colors are vivid, blacks are deep, compression is excellent. However, there are some comparaisons on internet showing that this image is heavily cut compared to the other editions... I didn't check it personnaly. Except this potential default, this DVD presents an excellent image.

sound

The sound is sadly not up to the image, mainly because of an average mix between the voices and the music. Musics are mixed quite high, and using the surround speakers (which is a quality), but the voices are mixed too low, and often difficult to understand. That's no big deal for people reading the subtitles of course, but that's still noticable. Otherwise, the remix in 5.1 is quite "light", with the music spreading on the surround speakers, and the sound effects and voices on the front speakers.

subtitles

No problem.

special features

The usual HKL package. Some trailers, a very long biography for Michelle Yeoh (20 minutes, ouch...), an interview (15 min, about her career, in english), and an exclusive special feature, her first commercial with Jackie Chan. The interview is the most interesting part, even if it doesn't talk about the movie itself.

menus

The main menu looks a little bit too much like a Tomb Raider video game. But overall, the standard HKL quality is present. The DVD cover is ok also.

quality/price ration

That's surely not the best DVD from HKL, but that's surely better than the HK DVDs. People not too picky about the sound and image cropping will find it nice. The special features are not great, but the movie doesn't really deserve 5 hours of making of. Good edition globally.
