Double Vision has as many good things as bad things to offer. The story is not very original, you can find bits from several famous serial killer movies (Seven of course), you add a little bit of fantastic, another bit of asian culture, and that's it. Nothing is really new here, but that's a very decent mix. Same for the directing and technical aspects, nothing really wonderful here, but the production value is quite high. Actors' performances are also quite nice to watch, especially with Tony Leung Ka-Fai, very convincing as a depressed husband and father. David Morse doesn't have a very developped character, but his duo with Tony is quite interesting.
So what went wrong with Double Vision? The bloody scene near the end of the movie ? Not really, at least that's a surprise in the middle of a quiet movie. No, that's rather the ending, a bit confusing and over the top. In fact the tension is not really here anymore after this violent scene, the story failing in keeping the interest of the viewers. That's a pity, Double Vision is nothing really new, but that's quite well done. You can still have a look at it if you are looking for an asian version of the US serial killer movies done after Seven.
